70 people from 13 countries will march from Luxembourg to Strasbourg from 1 to 11 February to demand freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The Long March, to be staged with the motto ‘Freedom For Öcalan, Status for Kurdistan’, will begin following a press briefing in front of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg on February 1, and end in Strasbourg 10 days later.

The march will be participated by a total of 70 people from 13 countries including French artist Sarah Mauriaucourt, Argentinian Doctor Daniel Maraz, Spanish historian Joaquín Martínez, Rojava Azadi Platform Representative Roc Peris from Catalonia, Portuguese activist Susana Isabel, Macedo Gomes and Julia Iglesias from Spain Newroz Kurdish-Basque Solidarity Association, in addition to representatives of Kurdish institutions in Europe.

Speaking to ANF about the march, KNK (Kurdistan National Congress) Executive Board Member Adem Uzun said: “This is the first time such an organization will take place in Kurdish political history as people from around the world will march for Leader Apo.”

FRENCH SOCIALIST PARTY AND MUNICIPALITY OF METZ ALSO SUPPORT THE PROTEST

Uzun said preparations have been completed for the march, giving the following information: “Participants of the march from all around the world have reached Brussels, Germany and Strasbourg. The march will be an international message as participants will denounce the unlawful practices of the Turkish state and ask the Council of Europe (CoE), Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and European Union (EU) why they do not abide by their own criteria and why they do not object to the isolation of Öcalan. The march participants will also have a series of talks with municipalities and non-governmental organisations on the course of their march. The ruling Socialist Party of France has also expressed support for the march. The Municipality of Metz will hold a conference together with the marchers on February 3 on Rojava and purpose of the march.”

YOUTHS TO MARCH FROM GERMANY TO STRASBOURG

Uzun stated that apart from the Internationalist March to kick off from Luxembourg, 300 Kurdish youths will start to march from Germany to France on February 5. Kurds and their friends will also stage three-day marches in several other European countries.

THOUSANDS TO MARCH IN MILANO

Uzun informed that a march will be held in Milano, Italy on February 11 with the participation of thousands of friends and supporters of Kurds. He added: “This will be the second march of its kind to be held in Italy, after the first one in Rome where 10 thousand people had expressed solidarity with the Kurds. Demonstrators will protest the isolation of Leader Apo.”
